Wreck this journal

Keri Smith, 2007

Wreck this journal is a curious book. At first you think that it is an ordinary dummy where you can explore your own creativity. Nothing less, the creativity comes by following the assignments in the book. It starts on the first page, where you're asked to write down your name in ten different ways. From that moment on the process of creativity starts. The assignments vary from taking the book with you into the shower, to documenting your dinner, literally. Very interesting, specially when you are a person who's used to documenting your own creativity in a very structured manner. That´s why you have to try this book! Personaly I think that by doing the assignments you can explore your creativity more, because it makes you do things against your own nature. Mapping the Studio, with Rob Pruitt a.o.

Venice Biënnale, 2009

A part of the collection of the super rich Francois Pinault (owner of Christie’s and the brand Yves Saint Laurent) has found a place in the Venice Biënnale.
The work of the most famous artists of this moment is shown at the exhibition Mapping the Studio. It is shown in the Palasso Grassie and also in an old customs building, which is converted to an hypermodern exhibition space by architect Tadao Ando. ‘The desire to possess - born at the moment I first came in contact with art - has been transformed into a profound need to share.’ says Pinault.

Rob Pruitt is one of the artists whose work is shown. Pruitt grow famous in the eighties with the artist-team Pruitt-Early. After years of absence, he made a comeback in the nineties with paintings of panda bears, a "Cocaine Buffet," and "101 Art Ideas You Can Do Yourself”. And these more than hundred ideas that everyone can do themselves are shown as work in the exhibition Mapping the Studio.
Some works are made on the spot, like music on a very high volume that makes half of the visitors protecting their ears, (art idea # 42 Make a mix tape), statues that got eyes (art idea #72 put googly eyes on things), and in the bookstore he wrote the idea of stealing books on the wall (art idea # 41 Shoplift).
You can find all the ideas at this website:

Learning to love you more, Harrell Fletcher and Miranda July

LTLYM, the art project of Harrell Fletcher and Miranda July, was based on online manuals for artworks. The two artists wrote the manuals themselves, for others to be inspired and for users to be creative with someone else’s thoughts as starting point for your own creations.
People from all over the world, artists and non-artists made the assignments and the results got published on the website.
The site is still online to view, but since May 1st 2009 you can no longer submit works of art. It currently exists as an archive of the project.

The book provides the assignments and some of the results that were published on the site.
They vary from a picture of the sun, to someone’s life story, written in a day.
